| | Description: There are many who do not know that Greg Hildebrandt spent a part of his early career working for Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. Throughout his lifetime, Greg’s spiritual background has been an influence and an inspiration in numerous ways. This painting, though it depicts a holy scene, exists in a setting that feels as though it could be a fantasy. There is a crimson red dragon, a winged avenger, and a moment of suspended time where the scene feels as though it is illuminated by a light source beyond the board on which it was painted.
There have been many depictions of Michael the Archangel, protecter of angels and Heaven, and this is a modern representation of a classic theme.
Greg Hildebrandt’s depiction of ‘Michael the Archangel’ won the 1997 Dragon Con award for best pro color. It is a painting that is epic in feeling, origin, and execution.
