Description: The sense of danger is very real in this painting of Shelob! Samwise is desperate to defend Frodo, who is poisoned and trapped beneath the vicious Great Spider! Fortunately, we know that Frodo and Samwise will escape and survive, but it was very important for Greg and Tim to create the feelings of excitement, danger, and suspense that are all found in this fantastic depiction of Tolkien's Shelob. Fun fact: Greg and Tim actually built a crude model of this spider for their reference! We know you'll get caught up in this piece! This is a painting from November of the 1978 Tolkien Calendar, which was painted by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. This painting was signed by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt prior to Tim's death in 2006.
