| | Description: Many people know the tale of the Wizard of Oz from the beloved 1939 film adaptation, but few know how incredibly dark and evil the Wicked Witch really was! In Baum’s original story, the Wicked Witch controls many creatures, including a pack of great wolves.
This painting is Greg’s interpretation of the witch as Frank Baum described her. Did you know she actually carried an umbrella, not a broom? That fact aside, she was a terrifying and formidable enemy who sent not only wolves after Dorothy, but a flock of 40 crows, a swarm of black bees, and a group of Winkie slaves. And eventually, of course, were the flying monkeys!
