Description: Pencil on Paper. This is the very first sketch created of Gandalf and the Hobbits. This sketch was the original sample shown to Ballantine books by Greg Hildebrandt and Tim Hildebrandt. It defined their vision of Tolkien in 1975. *Over the past 26 years the fragile paper that this sketch was created on has been slightly damaged. This sketch has a small stain and has been taped across the midddle, however this does not decrease its value. If you have any questions regarding this please contact the gallery. Thank you. Greg dug into his archives to find the few remaining Tolkien sketches that he owned in 2000 when Spiderwebart began to design the Tolkien art of The Brothers Hildebrandt art book, published by Watson-Guptill. This sketch may have some tears in it, but that in no way takes away from its beauty. The computer image does not do this drawing justice. Tim Hildebrandt passed away in June of 2006. This sketch was not signed by Greg and Tim prior to Tim's death. Therefore this original art is available signed only by Greg Hildebrandt. |
