Description: Pencil on tissue paper. This is all that remains of the character drawing for King Theoden and Wormtounge. It is not the final sketch that was done for this painting. It was done for the month of October in the 1978 Tolkien calendar. Greg dug into his archives to find the few remaining Tolkien sketches that he owned in 2000 when Spiderwebart began to design the Tolkien art of The Brothers Hildebrandt art book, published by Watson-Guptill. This sketch may have some tears in it, but that in no way takes away from its beauty. The computer image does not do this drawing justice. This sketch was signed Hildebrandt prior to Tim's death in 2006. |
