Description: Pencil on tissue paper. This partial sketch for the siege of Minas Tirith II was an original design done in 1978 for a painting that would have appeared in a fouth Hildebrandt Tolkien Calendar. Greg and Tim decided not to do another calendar. They did a new painting from this sketch for the The Brothers Hildebrandt Tolkien years art book published in 2001 by Watson-Guptill. Greg dug into his archives to find the few remaining Tolkien sketches that he owned in 2000 when Spiderwebart began to design the Tolkien art of The Brothers Hildebrandt art book, published by Watson-Guptill. This sketch may have some tears in it, but that in no way takes away from its beauty. The computer image does not do this drawing justice. This sketch was signed by Greg & Tim Hildebrandt prior to Tim's death in 2006. |
