Description: ANGEL of the GODS 1,000 Piece Puzzle by Altenburg-Stralsunder ! The Angel of the Gods was painted by Greg Hildebrandt in 1981. This gorgeous painting embodies all of the whimsy and majesty that would become a staple in fantasy art throughout the 1980's in print and cinema. This painting is the first in a series of four paintings by Hildebrandt that would be licensed to Verkeke Reproducties in Holland as a poster series. The theme for the series was simply beautiful women with mythological creatures. In hindsight these series was an early precursor to Greg Hildebrandt's American Beauties pinup series which began in 1999. Later this image would be licensed to Heavy Metal Magazine for their February 1982 cover. That issue went on to be the best selling issue for the brand and remains a fan favorite. The cover was reissued in February 2022 as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the cover. To this day it is the number one merchandised image by Greg Hildebrandt. Signed by Greg Hildebrandt |
