Description: The shoemaker and his wife spy on the elves as they make their beautiful shoes throughout the night.
The second illustrated classic Greg chose to do for Simon and Schuster is titled, Greg Hildebrandt's Favorite Fairy Tales, which was published in 1984. Over a period of 4 months, Greg read hundreds of fairy tales from around the world to choose the 22 tales that he would illustrate for this beautiful book.
This book was a labor of love. Greg knew that he needed to choose tales that were recognizable, like the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, but he also wanted to choose tales that most of us have never heard of like, The Story of Iubdan, King of the Lepra, and The Leprechaun. The paintings in this book are very elaborate and detailed, and Greg spent many months finalizing each one. He was very pleased with Simon and Schuster's reproduction of his art. When it was finished, he dedicated this book to his mother, Germane Hildebrandt for her never-ending belief in fantasy and fairytales and for the inspiration and love that she gave to Greg and his twin brother, Tim.
Spiderwebart Gallery is offering this painting on consignment from the owner.
