This issue of heavy metal features a cover illustration by Greg Hildebrandt titled Angel of the Gods.
History of the Art:
The Angel of the Gods was painted by Greg Hildebrandt in 1981 and licensed to Verkeke Reproducties in Holland as a poster series. This image would eventually be licensed to Heavy Metal Magazine for their February 1982 cover. That issue went on to be the best-selling issue for the brand and remains a fan favorite. The cover is a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original cover. The interior of the magazine is a current issue that features an interview with Greg Hildebrandt.
