| | Description: "I became aware of Tarzan through the Burne Hogarth and J. Allen St. John strips. I didn't read the Burroughs novels until later, though my mom had them. I was drawn in by the character's primal nature and deep connection with nature. One of the things that particularly stood out to me was the depiction of race in the stories from Del Comics. There was respect for the culture; the races were depicted as equal." - Greg Hildebrandt. When Greg began his sketches for this painting, he deliberately grounded it in a triangular composition. He used this device as a means of symbolism to depict the eternal struggle, Persecutor, Victim, and Hero. This painting represents the first time that Greg has painted Tarzan, a character and story he has loved since childhood.
